First Step to Downsizing Your Home
Decide on what big items you’re absolutely going to keep. We’re going to get to the smaller stuff a little later on. Just identify those things that you’re absolutely to want to hold onto and take with you to the next place. I don’t know what that would look like for you. It might be all the big pieces in your house. You might want to just literally start over, or maybe there is a special piece or two that you’re going to take. But you’d really like to go shopping for new furniture and replaced most of it. I’m not sure, but you give it some thought and I’m sure you’ll come to the right conclusion.
Second Step to Downsizing Your Home
Identify the things that you know you’re not going to need anymore. But would be a blessing to somebody else and call them up and let them know that you have them in mind and see how they would feel about receiving those things. Just remember, just like the good book says, it really is better to give than it is to receive.
Third Step to Downsizing Your Home
Now for step number three, get three boxes and put them in every room. One is for giveaway, one is for things you’re going to keep, and another one is for things that you’re going to discard. Now go one room at a time and keep putting things in each of those three boxes until you’ve got all the little stuff identified and where it’s going to go. This one step alone is really going to help take away that fear that this is just an overwhelming job.
Remember, just stick with one room at a time and before you know it, you’ll have one room done and then you’re going to be able to take the energy from that experience and move it to the next room.
